Blog 15 - Digipack. Part 1/5.

A digipack is a dvd packaging. It's a small box in which holds the disk. The number of disks can vary. Usually one or two in each digipack. It's designed to catch the attention of the chosen target audience and is designed for the disk/s inside to be safe. Digipacks do cost more than a normal CD album but digipacks hold alot more on the disk/s and they have more inside of the digipack. For example; a disk which usually plays a video, gives out special features, songs, and also includes a small booklet inside. A promo pack is a few items which are put together and then sold. This connects to the digipack because a dvd is placed into a digipack. Which sells both of them. Also, it can be sold with other products which are involved in the same genre.

The image with the blank dvd digipack box set is a template in which gives you the idea of what a digipack is. It's got a bigger box set in it.

The other digipacks in which I have chosen to analysis is a digipack from 'Metallica', 'Queen' and 'Gorillas' - They each share a similar genre to Paramore.

Beginning with the Metallica digipack. Firstly, both the front and back of the digipack connect. They both have similar colours and both suit the cover. This would attract to the target audience of the genre. This band is quite heavy and the colours used on this front and back page represent this. They bring out 'Emo' like feelings and the colours represent this. The writing also suits the target audience, but not only does it show that the genre is quite heavy, but it's also Metallica's logo. The disk also connects to the front and back page, which is good because each side is all kept similar. Lastly, on the digipack, you can also see images of skull. This can connect to their logo, but it also connects to the style of music in which they have and also representations of death. Which can signify the 'Emo' ness and the heavyness in which the music consists off.

Unlike Metallica, Queen has a simple design. The design on the disk is different to the front cover. Which shows a good comparison to eachother although they connect. Gives more flavour. The disks are a plain colour which means they are not over doing it. The bird like logo on the front of the cover brings out the man in the middle. It could represent that he has power and is clearly the male lead of this digipack. The bird is also wearing a crown - not only does this represent power but also it signifies 'Queen' and Royalty. The font used is quite royal also to suit the name of the band because Queen is also the main role (alongside the King) in the Royal family. Which holds a lot of power and authority.

Lastly, the Gorilla's digipack has a large difference to the other two in which I have analysed. The Gorilla's digipack is a smaller box compared to the other two. This represents that a digipack does not have to be the same size as the others. The box overall has a white background, this allows the pictures to be able to stand out on the case. There are pictures on each square in order to represent the band - they use animated characters with their personalities and characteristics. They use these in their music videos and their productions/products. This box suits the target audience because it will attract the audience by the well known images they're aware off and like.
