Flat Plans.

ii) Flat Plans.

When drawing the flat plans, i found out that having an image as the full background was a bit too much. Restarting, i sized down the image to the right side of the magazine. Fitting it centre right. This helped alot, because i was able to lay it out more presentable and it didn't just look packed all together.

To improve on my flat plan, which i should have taken notice on before i created my front page on Adobe was the date and price, which i didn't include. This is the most important part of the magazine. The audience knowing how much they are going to spend on the magazine and the date when it has been released and the date it ends.

I take notice that the flat plan is a draft but i could have included colour on it.

Originally i didn't have 'All aboard for freshers. Location: Honeyclub. Brighton. When: Wednesday. Time: 8.00pm to 12.00pm. Dress up.' After noticing there was a massive blank gap, i included it to fill it in, so that nothing looked out of place or bare. When creating it on the computer, i resized the fonts to make it bigger. Not only to fill in the blanks but so it appeals straight to the audience.

To emphasis the URL they were changed to a dark blue. Standing out from the rest, to show that they are URL's and not writing which has been written by me. I have also used Italics and Capital letters to make some of the writing to stand out.

The design choices stand out to the target audience because the writing is suited to the audience i am appealing to. Its mature. Which is needed to be done, because college students are becoming proper adults. The writing included on the front page also attracts to the students because its about events that are coming up. Which everybody talks about. Example; Freshers event.

I believe that the masthead also appeals to the target audience i am targetting it to. Its clear and its also bold and mature. Using different colours to allow the writing to stand out.

The main sells on the front page include in;

- Freshers Fayre.
- Freshers Events.
- Lewes results day.

These are big stories for the students because they include themselves or upcoming events which nobody stops talking about.

The contents page i believe could have held alot more onto it. The title could have been a bit bigger and a better font and the page could have been presented a bit better.

What i did like about the contents page was it had a different colour to the front page. Which would appeal more to the audience, because it wasn't just fixed with one colour. Also the list off different pages i thought i put enough there. Afterall, you didn't want to put too much in the magazine otherwise the students would get bored. Although, i could have included the numbers of the pages onto it.

Caroline Lewis AS Media Preliminary Task : Photographs.

After playing around with the fonts on Adobe InDesign CS2, we were aloud to go away and take pictures to present onto our magazine. Both of these pictures (left) were taken by me. The person in the picture is my friend Kayleigh Sell.
The first picture was taken outside sainsburys. I reckon the angle of the building really fitted into the picture. This picture wasn't intentionally taken for the magazine. It was when myself and her were out and about, and we had the camera at hand. I decided not to put the first picture onto the magazine because she was holding a page full of stickers. I didn't feel as if though this was mature enough for students. Although the setting and angle of the picture would have suited it.
The second picture on the other hand was set near a graveyard. Although the graveyard is not visible. The piece of wood she is peering through is the dome gate that you would need to walk through, to enter the graveyard. I reckon this picture had the right angle. Nothing else was in the background and there were no mis - en - scene, unless you include the wooden gate. I found that this appealed to the audience i am targetting it to because as well as showing maturity as well as fun. Which is what students like. Attending college, studying and having there free time. She also wasn't looking at the camera which i reckon is affective, because when the picture is on the front page of the magazine, it looks as if though she is looking towards the writing that is on the left hand side. Making the audience interested in the writing as well as the pictures that are on it.

Caroline Lewis AS Media Premiliary Task. Introduction.

Firstly, we decided what the name of our magazine would be. After deciding something which was suitable for the magazine and the college, we played around with fonts using Adobe InDesign CS2. When selecting a few different fonts possible to use, we created the front cover with those fonts. Which would be suitable for our front page. Moving on, we then made a plan on paper of what our pages would be looking like. A rough Idea. After settling with the drafts, we moved on. We need to take a photo which would be pasted on our front page. To allow it to stand out. The target audience that it would be targeting at would be teenagers, because they are beginning college and the magazines could be very usual for college use.

In this task, i will be designing a magazine for college. This is the preliminary task which builds us up into what is needed in the main task. In this task, we will be designing a front page and a contents page for a college magazine. We will be learning how to use Adobe Indesign CS2 and photoshop. This helps us build up to the main task.
