Blog 5 - Fonts.

For the fonts, we had to firstly play around with the different types and see which we thought suited our magazine the most. I used Dafont.com to help me decide. Once onto the site, it came up with a list of different categories that the fonts were placed under. These including categories like Cartoon, Comic, Groovy, Old school etc. The category i chose was 'Cartoon' this is because the caroon fonts appeal to the audience i am
targetting my magazine too. I knew what to look out
for. Which was bubble writing, which would suit the
title and magazine perfectly.

The font above is the 'Smartie' font , i decided not too use it. It just seemed a bit plain for a title that is supposed to stand out to the audience.

The font on the left side is Cheri, this is the font that i decided to use for the final title. I chose this because its clear, it stands out, it expresses the
word 'Bubble' in bubble writing. Also the word
'Pop' is being expressed by the bubble writing.
Also, the exclamation mark right at the end
makes it perfect for what is expected. Especially
that its not plain bubble writing, but instead, has
something in which attracts the attention of
teenage girls. Also this font came even more
useful as i used 'Cheri' for some of the small
writing. Example; 'What Selena Gomez really
thinks about Nick Jonas.' I can compare this font with the fonts used the 'Top of the Pops magazine' i analysed earlier. This is because, it is understandable, clear and easy to read. It also emphasises many of the similiar fonts to which i have used. These coming in connection to what is expected on a pop magazine.

The font used above is the font 'Star guides'. I decided not to choose this font because its not a font which really attracts the attention of the audience. Its too blocked and would be better on a different genred magazine.

The font above is 'Yahoo', this font is represented by the internet toolbar google. I chose not to use this font because it didn't have much affect on the front page. It also does not attract the attention of teenage girls. Its more of a males font.

The font above is the 'Pokemon' font. I decided not to use this on two very different reasons. The font is especially known as on the 'Pokemon' merchandise. It is a font which appeals to there audience they are targetting to. I didn't feel as though it appealed very well to my target audience, afterall its more of a male colour. It also doesn't look very appealing on a front cover of a pop magazine, its better to stay with Pokemon merchandise.

I am unsure to what the font above is, but i felt as though this font was a plain for the front page. The audience want something that will attract there attention and i feel as though this won't do that.

This font is 'Fontdinerdotcom sparkly.' This instantly caught my eye because i knew that this would attract the audience. Its fun, its funky and it has the class that appeals to my target audience. Firstly i thought this font could be used as my magazines slogan on the front of the mage, and to make sure, i did try it on the magazine, but it didn't suit the front page. So, when creating my contents page, i needed a nice font that would be 'better' than the other fonts, and i knew this had to be the title. Changing the colour of the text, i soon posted it blue with a pink background. I thought that it fitted perfectly for what is expected on the magazine.

Again, the font above just seemed to be like the other Bubble writing fonts. The magazine front cover needed a change from the boring bubble writing, i wanted to bring it out more, this was done by the font 'Cheri'.

The font above attracted my attention because it wasn't like the other bubble writing. This involved characteristic and boldness which may have suited my front page. I tried it on the front page, but decided it didn't fit in with the rest of the page, so i decided to ignore this font.

This font is 'Space out' but in white. The font instantly appealed to me when i saw it. I knew that i had to have this for my double page spread. Of course, i didn't use it for the title. Otherwise i would have to change the demographics of my magazine but i knew that this would fit perfectly on my double page spread. I firstly tried it with the white background but i didn't feel as though it fitted in well to the page. So, then i tried the black background one (below) and i felt as though it fitted perfectly and suited the page. I soon used this as the title of the musician the artist is about. (Jack Sefron).

The other fonts i have used have come from InDesign themselves. These including;
Arial - Originally it would have been Times New Roman, but i wanted to show that the magazine is infact a magazine of the future. So instead of using the old font 'Times new Roman.' i used a fresh new one 'Arial.'

Eras Light ITC - I used this font to make the writing become more expressed. This was so that even though there is plenty of stories around the front page, you were still able to read the short stories.
Comic Sans MS - I mainly used this font because it seperates the writing from the rest, showing that this is a whole different story, which it is because this is advertising the Miley Poster which is inside.
Calibri - Honestly, i used this font so that there wasn't too much of the same font on the front cover. This way, it allows more detail and appeals to the audience because they are able to recognise the different stories which are on the front page.
Impact - I felt as though this font was perfect for what was needed. This font made Dustin Russo's name stand out on the front page. Its bold and clear. Something which will attract the attention of the audience alot.
Elephant - I used this font to divide the story away from the others and to represent this font as being one of the main headlines. Emphasising the font, so the audience can see its the main story which is in connection to the main photo.
Corbel - I used this because again, it divides from the rest of the page. Although, it is quite similiar to Impact but just not as bold. This helps as the Corbel font and Impact font have been used on the same story.
